JUNIOR CLASSES
(YR 2, 3 & 4)

BALLET, JAZZ & LYRICAL

In the Ballet portion of the class students study the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and have the opportunity to participate in annual exams. Ballet technique is fundamental for excelling in all styles of dance and improves posture, poise and body awareness.  Jazz (including Musical Theatre) develops coordination and improves leaps and jumps. Lyrical is a soft and expressive style of dance that helps develop performance skills and musicality. We combine these styles to build a strong technical foundation and provide exposure to different styles of dance so that students can then specialise once they reach our Intermediate classes. Students perform a dance at our Mid-Year and End of Year concerts.

ACRO DANCE

In Acro Dance classes, students learn gymnastics floor skills which can be performed in a dance. Classes follow the AcrobaticArts syllabus and students develop core strength, control and flexibility. Students learn correct technique for handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, aerials (cartwheels and walkovers without hands touching the floor), partner work and more. Acro Dance classes are approximately half Jazz and half Acrobatic Gymnastics and students perform a dance at our Mid-Year and End of Year concerts, showcasing their skills.

Advanced Acro

Advanced students are invited to join with the Intermediate students for a faster-paced class with more challenging acro skills. Advanced students are expected to be able to perform cartwheels on both sides and unassisted walkovers at a minimum. Please contact us if you would like to enquire about these classes.

FAQ:

Do classes follow the school term?

Yes, click here for our term dates. Please note that classes are held on public holidays

What does my child wear and bring for a trial lesson?

For a trial lesson, we recommend wearing leggings and a t-shirt with bare feet. Please bring a water bottle (and afternoon tea, if joining the walking pickup). Once your child is enrolled, we have a compulsory uniform which is required after 3 weeks.

How can I buy the uniform?

Click here to visit our uniform shop.

Can parents watch the classes?

We invite all parents to observe the first 10 mins and/or the last 10 mins of your child's trial class. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the class in action and meet the teacher. Our studio spaces are not big enough or properly set up to accomodate weekly parent viewing and, similar to a school environment, our students focus best on learning when it’s just them and their teacher(s) in the room. The last week of each term is "Parent Watching Week" where parents are invited to view the last 30 mins of each class. We also have 2 concerts each year for your child to perform on stage and for you to see their progress.

When are the concert dates?

We have 2 performance opportunities each year: our Mid-Year Concert and End of Year Concert. Click the links for dates, times and more info.

Do you offer Ballet exams?

Yes, our Ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus and we are proud to offer annual exams. Exams are not compulsory but are incredibly rewarding and positive experience. For more info please click here.
